Amina Ali was discovered on Tuesday in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno state by civilian vigilantes assisting the military and brought back to her home town of Mbalala, near Chibok. “She met her parents, who recognised their daughter before she was taken to the military base in Damboa,” Ayuba Alamson Chibok, a community leader in Chibok, told AFP. “Her father’s name is Ali and the girl’s name is Amina. I know the family very well because I have worked with them, being a spokesman for the families of the Chibok girls.” Yakubu Nkeki, head of the Abducted Chibok Girls Parents’ group, also confirmed her name and said she was 17 when she was abducted. Over 17, 500 workers to be engaged as road construction begins – FG

The Federal Government says more than 17,500 road construction workers are to be re-engaged as contractors return to project sites across the country. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, made this known when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Wednesday in Abuja. He said that the contractors had declared their readiness to re-engage workers, who were laid off due to the huge debt owed by the Federal Government in the past three years. “We are trying to ensure that everybody (contractors and workers) go back as quickly as possible to have the most effective impact. “Just by speaking to 20 of our road contractors yesterday on the number of people they have laid off who they can move back to work. “The return that I got was over 17,500 people that they would re-engage. “So, that is the first step. President Muhammadu Buhari has divulge why he had to delay in signing the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law. Speaking during a radio interview over the weekend in Katsina his home State, Buhari assured Nigerians that his administration will effectively utilise available resources to turn around the fortunes of the country. Police takes over Edo state House of Assembly complex

Officers from the Edo state Police Command this morning took over the Edo state House of Assembly complex. 10 Hilux patrol vans and an armoured tank have been positioned around the complex.  This comes six days after 16 members of the state assembly impeached their speaker, Victor Edoro and replaced him with Elizabeth Ativie. Workers at the state assembly have also been denied access into their offices. The state command says the presence of the security officers is to avert any break down of law and order that may arise following the impeachment.

US ‘seeks to sell’ attack aircraft to Nigeria

The US government is hoping to sell up to 12 Super Tucano attack aircraft to Nigeria to help in the fight against Islamist militants Boko Haram, Reuters news agency reports. An anonymous source within the administration is quoted as saying that the US also wants to provide more help with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The sale of the aircraft would need to be approved by the US Congress. The Super Tucano is described by Reuters as a propeller-driven plane that can carry a range of weapons and can be used for attack and surveillance. Nigeria’s army has retaken a lot of territory in north-east Nigeria from Boko Haram in the last year. But the fight against the militants continues. The seven-year insurgency, which has mainly affected north-eastern Nigeria as well as its neighbours around Lake Chad, has left some 17,000 people dead. President Buhari HAS FINALLY singed  2016 budget into law at the Presidential Villa today being, Friday 6th of May. Abia State commercialised kidnappings in Nigeria –Senator Akpabio

Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday today at the Senate plenary gave a highlight into how Abia State pioneered the commercialization of kidnappings in Nigeria. He stated this while contributing to the debate on Joint Committee Report on Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence which was monitored by DAILY POST in Abuja. According to the former Governor, Kidnapping of expatriates in the Niger Delta in those days were purposely to protest for harm done to the environment by multinational oil companies and government’s lack of political will to address the trend, but in misplacement of purposes, the trend began to spread to other places.
