A series of events is taking place at the German Cultural Center in Lagos this October weekend

1. Remembering The Future Of Design

Design, by definition, is an exercise that constantly engages the future by taking place in the present, referencing the past and projecting into the future.

With this notion in mind, the artist / designer / animator Ibrahim Ganiyu spent a week with veteran artist and designer Demas Nwoko to interact with him, understudy his work and have conversations with him on the future of design at his studio and factory in Idumuje-Ugboko.

The exchange has inspired sketches, illustrations, and a thought process itching to be exhibited, perhaps as an unfinished graphic novel or design manual.

Venue: Goethe Institut, City Hall Lagos

4. iMagineering Lagos presents: Lagos 2060

future cities

  Date: Fri Oct 30th
 Time: 17:00 – 19:00

iMagineering Lagos, is a collective of creative technologists, writers and cultural producers that explores the multifaceted issues within the city’s scope and trajectory by re-imagining Lagos for the future.

With the current trend of future thinking and growing importance of technology, especially in emerging markets, the collective are ambassadors of scenario planning as a way to encourage radical thinking that involves a wider cross-section of society than more formal processes of city-making and social commentary allow.

Located somewhat between science fiction and an illustration of the social / political implications of technological change, the Lagos2060 project is an interactive installation that combines video with performance art to juxtapose future global aspirations versus local realities and the possible contradictions that could arise in this.
