I Hate Being Compared To Lampard – Gerrard

Former England internationals Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard were two world class midfielders who played alike albeit in slightly different roles for Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.

The two men led their former club teams to numerous trophies at club level but always had trouble replicating their scintillating form at international level.

 Gerrard however has still been compared to his former rival/ally. He told the Mirror UK, that he and Lampard are still being compared and receiving criticism for not being able to gel together for England.

He said: “I was hoping people would finally stop comparing me with Frank after moving here. He’s a legend and certainly one of those high-end players who will help lift the quality of this league.

He said: “But we’ve both drawn a line under our England careers so I don’t see any reason why we should bring that topic up again. It was always a media thing – we get along just fine.”

Gerrard gave an insight to differences between living in England and America.

He said: “For the first time we are able to enjoy our family life in peace. I have oceans of time to spend with the kids now. I’m there to take them to school in the morning.

“I pick them up in the afternoon and we go to the beach together. The kids love it so much they have even started calling me Superdad. Can you imagine?”

Gerrard left Liverpool for the LA Galaxy in the MLS in the summer of 2014 while Lampard left Chelsea for New York City in the MLS in 2013 but spent one season on loan at Manchester City.
