As we go into the rainy season, here are 5 necessary precautions you need to take

Since we are all aware that rainy season is prevalent with a host of infections which are mostly respiratory, food and water borne diseases like cough, cold, and flu are common problems that attacks children faster due to the fluctuating temperature.

Students, adults and little kids need to maintain a proper healthy diet and hygiene to avoid falling sick this season.

NAIJ.com’s Abiola Atoyebi has come up with five basic precautionary measures you need to put in place ahead of the rainy season.

1. Protect yourself from dirty water. Purify the water used on the body as well as the one you drink. Avoid dipping your feet into dirty water that can attract foot and toe bacteria.

2. Clear clogged gutters and drainages for free flow of water pathways.

3. Avoid stagnant water which could attract and harbor the primary host of malaria parasite (mosquitoes). To maintain a healthy lifestyle, this reason will also help you stay out of sickness.

4. Use an earth leakage circuit breaker to prevent electrocutions and electrical shock injuries. You can also check out for exposed electrical passage while ensuring electrical appliances are properly switched off when they are not in use.

5. Never dispose waste into drainages and water pathways to avoid flooding the environs.

As a responsive frontier of our health and safety, the general manager of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) Engr Shabi Rasheed, has promised to educate resident on basic tips on environmental protection.

According to him, only 5 percent of Nigerians understand what environment protection means.
